According to a newly released report by the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri, she said that 20 out of 21 Nigerians awaiting execution in Indonesia are from Anambra state.

The chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has revealed that a trip she took to the Indonesian prison some years back revealed that out of the 21 Nigerian drug peddlers on death roll, 20 of them were from Anambra state while the remaining one was from Edo state.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this in a recent interview with The Cable. She noted that the commission is working towards creating awareness against the ills of drug trafficking, particularly reminding Nigerians as they collect their passports that death awaits them in some countries should they venture into drug trafficking.

Responding to a question on whether the commission provides counselling to Nigerians arrested for drug trafficking just as some other countries do, she said

“The commission is planning that. So, with the commission on board, we are going to take it embassy by embassy. For example, if you are going to Indonesia and you carry drugs, you are dying. There is no debate.

We went to Indonesia prison some years back, 21 Nigerians were on death row, and 20 were from one state – 20 were from Anambra state, and one from Edo. And when you get to the (Indonesian) airport, it is written all over, “penalty for drugs is death”.

So, from the point of leaving, we are going to be working with the NDLEA, with the embassies; in fact, as you collect your passport, they will tell you if you carry drugs, you are going to die. So, that is what the commission will be doing from country to country.

In India, for instance, if you say you are going to study, and you are going as a student. If you finish your education and you stay there, they will lock you up.

India will not give you work. They will not employ you. So, we are going to have an information center that will be dealing with all those issues.

We are going to have a place that you can call if you are in distress. That is almost at the final stage, so yes, it is important to share information.

But I tell you, despite sharing this information, some will still do (what they want). But at least, let us know that we have given out all this information”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said it will begin manhunt with immediate effect for the home-based Nigerians indicted by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for a variety of scams and online fraud cases in the US.

According to DAILY POST report the fraudsters, majority based in Nigeria, were involved in a series of coordinated internet scam running into billions of dollars fraudulently obtained from victims in the United States and other parts of the world.

He said this while speaking at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the Acting Chairman of the agency, Ibrahim Magu, stated that the agency had commenced investigation into the matter.

He said the commission was investigating to ascertain the involvement of Nigerians who collaborated with the ones indicted in the United States.

“We will investigate it and we will leave no stone unturned. We will go after those who collaborated with the ones in the US and they will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Magu said.

He also restated an earlier position of government that it would go after those involved in the failed Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) gas to power project that plunged the country into a $9.9 billion judgement debt crisis.

The EFCC boss said the commission was collaborating with the FBI in two operations notably Operation ‘Wire-wire’ which commenced in 2018 and Operation ‘Rewire’ presently ongoing, both aimed at containing cybercrime.

He said the joint operation involved Malaysia, Canada, Indonesia and the United States.

“We are investigating. It’s ongoing. It will be revealing because some people want to rob this nation and we will not allow that”, he said.

The head of the military counter-insurgency operations in the North-East (Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole), Olusegun Adeniyi has said that the military will now move against the finances of Boko Haram.

He said this would be done by restricting their fishing activities anywhere in the country.

Adeniyi said this while addressing journalists in Maiduguri on Friday regarding vehicles, fish, hides, and skin, seized from transporters believed to have been trading with the Boko Haram insurgents.

Adeniyi revealed that four vehicles conveying insurgents’ fishery products were seized on Maiduguri-Ngala Road by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

According to him, the military has not moved out of Borno State but changed its strategies to prevent attacks on its base.

He added that troops had vacated the trenches and reduced the roadblocks and in its stead, evolved mobile units where the troops rove troubled areas.

He said the military found out that the stationed formation made it easy for the insurgents to attack military facilities but with the latest strategy, he pointed out, the insurgents would be in for a surprise.

He said: “Boko Haram insurgents have a running business to generate money to fund their dastardly activities. We fully recognize the fishery industry in Nigeria but the fishery done by Boko Haram is to create confusion, continue insurgency and destruction of the North-East.

“Anybody who allows his horse or camel to carry fish for the Boko Haram, you are part of the insurgents because you are aiding them.”
