 Our weekend celebrity scan is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer whose pop and Afro beat style of music has elevated him to the top notch of his career in the music industry. He goes by the name David Adedeji Adeleke but popularly known by his stage name as Davido.
Davido was born on November 21, 1992 in Atlanta Georgia United States of America to the family of chief Deji and Vera Adeleke but relocated back to Lagos Nigeria at a very tender age.
Davido had a wonderful upbringing being that his father is a Nigerian business mogul and late mother a University lecturer. He attended the British International school in Lagos for his primary and secondary education, upon graduation he enrolled in Oakland University to study Business Administration. Due to bad grades Davido had to dropout of Oakland to focus more of his energy on his musical career. He bought musical equipments and started making beats and recording vocals. He left US to settle in London where he kept on making beats and recording sounds.
In 2011, Davido returned to Nigeria to announce himself in the music industry, but his music was sidelined as his sound was relatively new to the Nigerian audience and the competition was so high. In same year, his father persuaded him to pick up a degree course in music at Babcock University, an inaugural class of one which was fully paid by his dad. In July 2015, Davido backed a degree in music at Babcock university. Prior to 2015 when he graduated, Davido never stopped working hard to carve a niche for himself in the Nigerian music industry.
The superstar started working on his debut album titled ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (OBO) meaning the son of a rich man in 2011. May 7, 2011, he produced and released his first single titled “Back when” which became a major hit banger in every household. The song received massive airplay.
On October 30, 2011, “Dami Duro” was released, the song was produced by Shizzi and Davido. The video was shot and directed by Clarence Peters.
On May 6, 2012, Davido’s HKN music, released “overseas” a second single in the OBO album. On September 28, 2012, the label released the video for “All of you”. The song was produced by Gospelondebeatz. Other singles such as ” Ekuro”, “Gbon Gbon”, and ” feel alright” were released alongside their videos to further use to promote the album.
After the release of ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (OBO) album in 2012, the artist began recording his second studio album. On February 25, 2013 he released a super hit single titled “Gobe”. ” Gobe” was the album’s lead single. The song was produced by Shizzi and the video, shot in south Africa by Godfather productions.

On May 13, 2013 another single was released titled “One of a kind” following a twit he earlier made on twitter to announce the release of the song. The video was shot in South Africa by Tebza of Godfather productions. Another party banger single was released titled “Skelewu”. “Skelewu” was the third single for his second album and was released on August 13, 2013. The song ranked number one in most music countdown charts in Africa and beyond. The video of the song directed by Sesan was released, not quite long, Davido took to twitter to debunk the video by saying that someone betrayed him by releasing the video. He further announced that he will re- shoot the video with Moe Musa, a music video director based in the UK.
On October 21, 2013, the official music video for “Skelewu” was released, shot and directed by Moe Musa in London.
On February 2, 2014, Davido released “Aye” the album’s fourth single. The song was produced by Tspize. The video was directed by Clarence Peters and released on the 7th of February 2014.
The album’s fifth single titled “Tchelete (Good life)” was released on the 30th of April 2014, featuring South African music duo Mafikizolo. The interpretation of the song is “Money” and was was produced by Oskido and Shizzi.
His second studio album titled ‘The baddest‘ was released on September 2015 under his former record label he co- owned with his brother.
Davido is on top of his game as he has continued to churn out hits upon hits. He has so many endorsement deals with brands and companies, has won quite a number of awards including the music of black origin (MOBO Awards) as The Best African Act, an award he won on November 30, 2017. He has featured so many Nigerian and international artists, he has toured the universe, flaunts his own label, Davido Music World (DMW), has his own clothing line, he is among the most influencer youth in Nigeria and he is currently a member of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) a mandatory one year program for Nigerian higher institution graduates below the age of 30.
